How to install ubuntu 9.04 desktop edition on my windows machine?

My machine has windows vista with service pack 2 on it. I dont want to format or get rid of vista atleast for now. How to install ubuntu without disturbing my windows or in other words use both?

Answer

Ubuntu install automatically handles while another Operating system is installed in your machine

Download the latest ubuntu desktop edition at http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
Burn it into a CD
Boot it with the CD and follow the instructions on the screen
While on the partition screen, choose freed space (this will ensure the installation in a seperate partition
If you know about partition, you can manually change the size
more detailed instructions available at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot

NOTE: For safety, always backup before installation
