How to fix this network error problem while connecting Empathy MSN using http method, pidgin was working great. Got this problem after upgrading to ubuntu 9.10 from jaunty...

  • Me too can't connect to MSN and Yahoo. Getting the same network error. Switched back to pidgin

    Problem: Error message "Network Error"  
    Possible Solution:

    • Kill
      the running process called telepathy-butterfly and reconnect the
      account by unchecking and re-checking the box under Edit->Accounts.
      For example:
    •  killall telepathy-butterfly

  • I had to kill empathy with a killall empathy for it to work again
