  • As a word of warning...  This affected me more than with just an irritating boot delay.  Due to this error, no USB devices attached to BUS2 could be detected on boot, and it caused "lsusb" to hang indefinitely.  It was a serious issue for me since I was connecting the USB dongle for my wireless keyboard / mouse into a USB port on BUS2 (front ports for me).  They would never work if connected during the boot process but if connected after boot was completed, there was no problem.  (They even worked in BIOS and GRUB, and then failed thereafter during the SMB2 probing process.)  I solved the problem by connecting the dongle to one of the BUS1 ports on the back of the board.  This was on a Zotac based 9300-mini itx board and frustrated me for more than 4 months.  I hope this information helps someone else find similar issues more quickly!

  • Sadly, this seems to be a known error - open bug reports exist, but as of the time of writing (May 23rd 2010) they haven't even been allocated for investigation yet.
It appears to be most common on ION-based graphics chipsets, such as the Acer Aspire Revo.

The good news is that it seems to affect nothing beyond an irritating delay on boot.
There was some thought that in earlier releases (< 10.04) you could defeat this through using lax ACPI settings, but that seems to have no effect here.

This was due to the nForce graphic's driver. After installing the proprietory graphics driver from the Hardware drivers screen this message went away.

  • I have the same problem. Activiating the Nvidia driver does not get rid of the error message.
