One of my friend runs ubuntu linux on a HP pavilion laptop. Not sure about the model number. I'm sure it shouldn't have any problems.
 
In your case, the best way to figure out if it works on your model is, download the Ubuntu 64 bit edition and burn it into a CD and now boot with the CD and there is a option in the menu to "Try without installing Ubuntu". This will not install anything to your machine. It gives the opportunity to try the entire ubuntu linux on your machine to make sure everything works fine. Hope it helps.
