I feel really dumb here but I cannot see how to network the desktop to the server for the purpose of using server folders for storage.

I've set up samba on the server and the ubuntu desktop can see shares on my windows pcs and the windows ocs can see samba shares on the ubuntu server but the ubuntu desktop can't see anything on the ubuntu server.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Tried to install usb mobile broadband, Now the network manager icon and battery status icon disappeared. WIFI os ok, but i am not able to disconnect one network and connect another. Is it possible to add theese icon to the panel again?

I want to run my own local dns server using ubuntu server. Right now the server gets a new ip address every time the machine restarts. Someone help me how to set a static ip address so that it stays the same ip in the network always.
