I Have a Medion AMD Turion64 laptop. I have ran Ubuntu 10.04 (32bit) successfully since its launch.

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit version - but won't download the 350 updates it suggests are required.

I then replaced the 64 bit version with the 32 bit version - and have the same problem!

Why?  What do I do to correct this issue.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_jaunty_main_binary-i386_Packages, E:La lista dei pacchetti o il file di status non possono essere letti o aperti.'
Si può risolvere l'inghippo e scaricare gli updates

come posso risolvere e superare questi messaggi di errrore che mi impediscono di scaricare updates in UPDATE MANAGER e applicazioni con ADD/REMOVE in UBUNTU 9.04?

When i installed ubuntu on my windows vista machine, i had two menuitems for ubuntu and two menuitems for windows vista in the grub boot menu. I edited the boot menu list file and set vista as my default boot operating system. So, if i don't hit enter, it by defaults boots into windows.
