I just installed ubuntu 10.10 desktop on a toshiba satelite running xp pro. After instalation it shows a small screen with a resolution of 800 x 600. I have an nvidia video graphic card that supports higher resolutions, but I am stuck with a unknown monitor and a choice of 640 x 480 and 800 x 600 resolution. I am not good with commands, so if anyone can help me, please be detailed about a solution. Thank you...

Hello,
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell Precision T3500 Desktop machine. Last week, when I ran the regular updates, upon restart my video disappeared. I could not even see the Dell startup screen or enter the BIOS.
When I swapped out the video card (for an older one I had around), the system worked again. So Dell sent me a replacement video card. I put that in and everything appeared to be working again.

I want to record and publish tutorial video's by recording desktop or window screen activities. Are there any free software or packages for ubuntu or linux, to record in open format?

Please help me in picking the right video recording and editing software for ubuntu 10.10 or linux, thanks.

installing updated drivers for laptop after ubuntu installation is complete.

I cannot play any videos online. The player acts like its gonna work and then never loads

I don't see any video player in ubuntu linux that supports playing .wma or .wmv format media files.
Is there any wmv/wma codec to support the same in leading media players of ubuntu?
VLC player plays most of the formats but no wmv. It would be great if they support it.
The default video player that ships with ubuntu doesn't play or support some of the video format because all i am hearing the sound and don't see any picture. Please help me with a nice video player for linux that supports most of the formats. appreciate your help
